The International Museum of Surgical Science is proud to present our Summer-Fall 2018 Artist-in-Residence: Chicago-based filmmaker Emma Rozanski

Emma is a moving image artist and filmmaker who recently completed her Master Degree in filmmaking under the mentorship of internationally acclaimed filmmaker Bela Tarr, at his Film Factory in Sarajevo. Her debut feature film, PAPAGAJKA (The Parrot) had its World Premiere at the SXSW Film Festival March 2016 and continued on to a successful festival run worldwide. Emma’s moving image works have collectively have been selected for over 150 festivals and exhibitions worldwide and won several awards. She is an alumnus of the Berlinale Talents, the Berlinale Short Film Station and the Reykjavík Talent Lab. Emma is currently developing several feature films – her next being the experimental magic-realist, hybrid psycho-drama, ALGEBRA. Emma’s other Film Factory mentors include Palme d’Or recipients Cristian Mungiu, Apichatpong Weerasethakul and Gus Van Sant, along with award winning auteurs/artists Juliette
Binoche, Gael Garcia Bernal, Carlos Reygadas, Agnieszka Holand, Guy Maddin, Pedro Costa, The Brothers Quay, Fred Kelemen and Ed Lachman. Emma is part of the artist collective, Bistrik7 (@Bistrik7), a group of 20 filmmakers from around the world and the first generation of post-graduate students from Bela Tarr’s film factory. They make collective projects and curate screenings and exhibitions of their work around the
globe.
