FACE OFF: Skull-A-Day vs Street Anatomy

Skull Appreciation Day Exhibition at the International Museum of Surgical Science

May 31, 2013 – August 25, 2013

Skull-A-Day and Street Anatomy go head-to-head to curate the greatest
collection of skull art for the 3rd Annual Skull Appreciation Day.

In a world filled with ubiquitous skull art, Noah Scalin, founder of Skull-A-Day and Vanessa Ruiz, founder of Street Anatomy will create a mash-up of skulls covering their numerous representations in pop culture and society. Dark vs light, death vs life, iconic vs literal, beauty vs decay, etc. Skull-A-Day and Street Anatomy will also participate by creating their own skulls, in a face off between the master of skull art and the purveyor of anatomical art.

Skull-A-Day and Street Anatomy will each curate a collection of artists specializing in skull and/or anatomical art. In addition to showing their existing work, each artist will be asked to complete a frontal view of a skull in their own style. These skulls will then be split apart (digitally) and combined with other skull halves to create a dynamic and unique collection of skull art. Each skull will be comprised of the work of two different
artists, one from Skull-A-Day and one from Street Anatomy. At the end of the exhibition the respective skull halves will be brought together allowing us to see each artist’s complete skull piece.

Audience interaction: The audience (both online and in person) will be encouraged to participate by using our skull template to create original art that will be turned into collaborative pieces and displayed digitally.
