Ossuaries are resting places for skeletal remains that have been relocated from
temporary grave sites. This was an ancient funereal practice in Europe and
parts of Asia to save space in graveyards and tombs. The largest ossuary in the
world is the Catacombs of Paris, France, which holds the skeletal remains of
over six million people dating from the 1700s.
The design of this pin is based on the ossuary skulls of St Leonard's Church in
Hythe, Kent, England.
Size: 1 x 1.5"
This soft enamel pin is cast from black nickel and filled with colored enamel.
