About the Presenters:
Shane Farritor PhD, MS, Virtual Incision
Shane Farritor, Ph.D., M.S., holds a doctorate and master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from MIT and is currently a faculty member at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Prior to his work at the university, Shane studied at the Kennedy Space Center, Goddard Space Flight Center, and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Shane holds over 170 patents and has published over 140 peer-reviewed articles in the field of robotics.
Rachael Wagner, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, PhD Candidate
Rachael Wagner is a biomedical engineering PhD student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Her research interests include space technology and surgical robotics. She graduated with a bachelor’s from UNL in 2018 and worked at Virtual Incision in Lincoln before pursuing a graduate degree.
Francesco Bianco, MD, FACS, Associate Professor of Surgery, Division of General, Minimally Invasive & Robotic Surgery, Department of Surgery, University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine
Dr. Francesco Bianco earned his medical degree from the College of Medicine, G. D’Annunzio University in Chieti, Italy, where he also finished his general surgery residency and obtained his board certification. He completed a minimally invasive and robotic surgery fellowship at “Misericordia” Hospital in Grosseto, Italy as part of the largest program of robotic general surgery in the world. Dr. Bianco has been deeply involved in the development and teaching of robotic surgery since 2003. As coordinator of the International School of Robotic Surgery in Italy and director of the Advanced Robotic Surgery Lab at UI Health, he has trained more than 150 surgeons from around the world in advanced robotic surgery techniques. He has published over 60 peer-reviewed publications and 4 book chapters related to minimally invasive and robotic-assisted surgery.

The Health in Space: Daring to Explore exhibition was developed by the Canada Aviation and Space Museum, one of three museums under Ingenium – Canada’s Museums of Science and Innovation, in collaboration with the Canadian Space Agency.
New Technologies in Space Medicine
The International Museum of Surgical Science developed the New Technologies in Space Medicine exhibition in partnership with NASA, Virtual Incision, Axiom Space, the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology, the Translational Research Institute for Space Health (TRISH), and the Japanese Culture Center.
